Stress during the holidays often causes us to look forward to them being over! We are creatures of habit and the month of December is anything but habit. Our routine slips away with our need to and expectation of the perfect holiday. For some, getting back to work is less stressful than being surrounded by family and friends. Wouldn’t it be great if we could celebrate the good things about Christmas a little bit each month. What have you learned from this holiday season? I learned that family activities, conversation, and special rituals are what we remember. Yes, the holidays are stressful, but we can move forward with positive memories and create ways to reduce our unrealistic expectations for the future. I love routine just like the next person so embrace daily habits while consciously being grateful for the joy in the midst of the craziness of our routines. Life is about change, good mental health is about positive adaptation. Adapt and enjoy.
