The roller-coaster ride continues as the market rallied today for an almost 500 point spike. The emotions tied to the market’s volatility are enough to make anyone nauseous. While fear continues to be the predominant emotion, glimmers of hope occasionally emerge. The psychology of the stock market and investing is fascinating. In many ways it is similar to dealing with emotional problems. The objective is management, not complete control, and the treatment requires patience, commitment, and perseverance. Although understanding the problems helps with management, taking responsibility for change is essential for healing. Managing our investments and managing our mental health require similar elements. The bottom line is, at times with both you may feel completely out of control , but if you ride out the storm and stick with the program things will improve. Stay the course, trust your instincts, and grow through adversity.
